Our Solar System

You and your partner are responsible for the part of the solar system that was assigned to you.
(Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Asteroid Belt, Kieper Belt, Sun)

You need to find for your assigned part  of the Solar System:
1. What it is made of?
2. The diameter of it? or average diameter if you are assigned one of the belts?
3. Where is it located in our solar system?
4. Average temperature
5. Is there water or ice?
6. Does it have a satellite orbiting it?  If so, how many and what are their names?
7. Have we used space technology to explore it? If so, what have we used?
8. Three interesting facts that have not already been answered in the previous questions.

The Carbon Cycle and the Nitrogen Cycle

Directions:

You will fold your paper in half.  On one side of your paper, you will research the carbon cycle.  On the other side of your paper, you will research the nitrogen cycle.  Please find and answer the following questions using the websites and resources below.

1.  Briefly describe the cycle using at least three sentences.
2.  How does the cycle effect the earth?
3.  How does the cycle work?
4.  If the earth did not have this cycle, what would happen?
5.  List three interesting facts you found about the cycle.
6.  Draw a diagram of how the cycle works.

EARTHQUAKES AND VOLCANOS

You are to chose one volcano and one earthquake.  

1.  Where was the volcano or earthquake?
2.  When did the earthquake or volcano happen?
3.  How did the earthquake or volcano change area around it?
4.  How did the earthquake or volcano change life for the people who lived in the area?
5.  Were there any warning signs before the volcano or earthquake?
6.  List three interesting facts about each.

Fold your paper in half.  On one half you will answer the questions about the earthquake you picked.  On the other side you will answer questions about the volcano you picked.

The Inner and Outer Planets of our Solar System


I can describe the characteristics of the inner and outer planets.  GLE # 43


Using the websites below, gather information about two planets.  One inner planet and one outer planet.  I will assign you the planets that you gather information on.


You ONLY have today to complete this assignment.

You will take the information that you gather from the website and complete the following:

1. Fold your paper in half.
2.  On either side of the paper, write the name of each planet.
3.  Draw a picture of the planet.  Make sure that your picture is accurate.  (For example, Mars is red.  If you draw and color it green, you will lose points.)
4. Underneath the picture of the planet answer 5-11 in complete sentences.
5.  What is the planet made of?
6.  How long does it take this planet to orbit the sun? (example: It takes the earth 365 days to orbit the sun)
7.  How long is one day on this planet? (example: One day on Earth is 24 hours)
8.  What planet is it from the sun?  (example:  Earth is the third planet from the sun)
9.  How many moons does this planet have?
10.  Is this planet an inner or outer planet?
11.  List three interesting facts about this planet.

Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration

1.  Show your knowledge and illustrate each step in both photosynthesis and respiration.

2.  Make sure you identify the exchange of gases that occurs during photosynthesis and respiration.

3.  Explain the relationship between the two processes.

4.  Explain why plants would not be able to exist without the ability to perform photosynthesis and respiration.

5.  If plants could exist on Earth without animals; could animals exist on Earth without plants?

6.  What gas exchange takes place between plants and animals?

Directions: You
are to choose a disease you would like to research from the list below. You
will then log in to trackstar and research that disease. Once you have gathered
all of your information, you will use it to create a poster. The following is
required on the poster:
